What is Botox?
Botox has become one of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures today. Each year, more and more individuals are going to cosmetic surgeons to receive this treatment. But what exactly is Botox? This is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure designed to help an individual achieve a more youthful facial appearance. This procedure does not require any incisions, but instead Botox is administered through injections. Botox is a form of Botulinum toxin that is purified and diluted for cosmetic purposes. When injected, Botox keeps certain muscles that cause wrinkles from contracting. In fact, the injections actually paralyze the nerves temporarily. This can prevent new wrinkles and fine lines from forming and help reduce the appearance of pre-existing lines and wrinkles. This results in a younger, more relaxed facial appearance.
The results of the Botox treatment can last anywhere from four to six months. The effects of the Botox treatment will gradually fade and follow up treatments will be needed to keep wrinkles and lines from reappearing. Treatments can last anywhere from a few minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the area that needs to be treated. Plus most patients are able to return to their normal activities right after treatment.

Dr John Gillis
Dr. Gillies' university education began with a B.Sc. and M.D. at the University of British Columbia and later completion of the Executive M.B.A. program at Simon Fraser University.
For him, medicine has been an exciting and rewarding career. Initially he was a General Practitioner in a small rural community; later, he worked exclusively in the Medical Administrative field first with the federal government and then as a Medical Director or Vice-President in both the Community and Teaching Hospital settings. After this he was able to combine both the practice and management aspects of medicine when he and his wife, Michelle, created CarePlace Medical Centre
Dr. Byron Ham
Dr. Ham grew up on a farm in rural Saskatoon and attended the University of Saskatoon. Following his university training where he received his B.Sc. and M.D., he interned at Flint Michigan Hospital and came to British Columbia in 1975 where he began general practice. His family practice included obstetrics, walk-in clinics, emergency medicine, and hospital patient care.
